Are you referring to a CDC that focuses on activities such as affordable housing development? Such a gig may be more well suited for a way into RE development more than REPE or REIB. I do know of a handful of people who have done the transition from non-profits to larger for-profit development firms as the experience travels well.

Depends on the size and sophistication of the CDC. If you are working for a CDC in, say, NYC then you'd learn a lot of sophisticated financing. If you're working for a CDC in Idaho it may be a lot less "transferrable".

Working for a CDC would be a good transition into real estate development or to commercial lending (underwriting or production). Definitely not a good avenue into investment banking or PE unless you get an MBA from an M7 program.
