Just wondering how common this is with other analyst/associates. It not a huge deal to me just kind of annoying since he will call me and dictate what I need to say for him to send. I do this all the time.
He's a bit of a micromanager but just curious how common this is.

I’ve heard of an analyst who was responsible for tracking receipts for a boss’s home renovation. Seems to have worked out pretty well for them.
I did at my old company for the ceo. His email writing skills were pretty bad since he was ancient.
just casually slip the word "penis" into one of these emails and I think you can be free of this duty!

I have a partner who is like this. He cant for the life of him actually write an email. It is annoying af, will call me and be like hey write this email for me. Then he wonders why it takes a day or two for that person to get an email. Like fucking hell I have shit to do.
Are you learning anything by writing his emails?
100% have done this before, in multiple jobs. Not word for word dictation but them saying "can you draft an email to Joe and include points on X,Y,Z". Depending on what it / my comfort, I'll just flip it out. If I'm less comfortable or if it is a very important email I'll send the draft internally.
Have found superiors to be pretty busy so they will ask you to draft something, specifically with emails that require particular details. Have had them edit it and send across (cc'ing me).
I personally don't mind doing it. I get to see how to position language accordingly for the negotiation and what context they include or don't include. If stuff get's cut out or added in, I'll ask why when we're in person next time for learning purposes. No different than having someone mark-up your LOI in my opinion.
Same here. I was asked to do this a decent bit and now I have our analysts do it as well. Behind the scenes though, I'm giving the real author (the analyst) credit for doing the heavy lifting. To me this isn't bitchwork, it is learning how to do your boss's job so you can do it (and do it better) when you are in their seat.
At first I thought it was dumb and bitchwork. Now I already know he is going to ask for a draft email from me. I feel confident enough now to just send out on my own unless it is said otherwise. It sort of like better to ask for forgiveness than permission sort of thing. If I say the wrong thing or need to add something my boss will chime in on the email. Only downfall of my ghost writing his email for so many years is that i use his sales jargon in my emails and it irks the shit out of me. Like i cannot believe this is how i talk now.
