FP&A -> Real Estate
Hi All, Did some searching and couldn't find anything directly relevant. Have worked for about 2 years in FP&A (6 months at a smaller company, and 1.5 years at a divisional level) and am starting to get tired of the routine nature of it and have always had an interest in real estate. Was wondering how hard it is to transition to real estate acquisitions / REPE, looked through a few job postings and saw that corporate finance experience was mentioned as desirable, would I just have to show an interest in real estate? Is there another step I would have to go through before moving into those roles (I know that IB -> PE is the common route, not sure if there is something similar for real estate) ?
EDIT: Reading through some threads I'm thinking FP&A -> Asset Management in a REPE or other real estate fund might be a more reasonable move
Was going to link this thread. Might consider -> Brokerage -> REPE which seems to be a common theme here. Also, MSRE/ MRED/ MBA could make the jump easier if you want to go back to school and won't go too much in debt for it.
Had a guy come in from FP&A --> REPE AM/Acquisitions role.
candidly he didn't deserve it and only got the job because his dad.
moral of the story you're probably going to need to know somebody.
Brokerage would be a good stepping stone.
AM not outside the realm of possibility either.
