REPE to Alternative Investment Firm
Previous poster on WSO but using a new username. Struggling with what to do next with RE career. Currently an associate at a REPE firm AUM >$5B and likely to be promoted to senior associate. Graduated 2013 and have been in REPE for almost 4 years now.
I've gone back and forth on whether to take a job as a VP / Investment Manager with a Alternative Investment Firm that raises their capital from a few ultra high net worth who are from the real estate industry with AUM ($2B - $3B). Great pedigree from well known real estate companies. They have partnered alongside major real estate equity firms (Blackstone, TPG, Carlyle) but have also done the entire equity position on deals as well. Focusing on opportunistic / value add acquisitions and development. This job would definitely be a step up in responsibility and upside along with compensation.
My initial thoughts are take the risk and take this job as I know there will always be REPE jobs just a matter of timing and better to take that risk before I climb too high up the REPE ladder. Wanted to get people's thoughts.
