Tips for thinking clear in an interview?
Hey guys,
Any tips? I can converse fine on a call about experience etc but when it comes to an in person/Zoom I tense up. Also in general I have brain fog which I have found drinking water, eating healthy helps but still can’t think straight. Sleeping well sometimes helps and same with lifting but in general kinda is there and that makes it tough to think in interviews.

Stop smoking weed.
I'm not sure if this can really help with "brain fog" per se, but as a general rule people often feel pressured to "rush" their answers in interviews. In an effort to come across as quick, natural, and sharp, there is a tendency to start talking immediately when a question is asked, and you'll often come off as disorganized. Try to get comfortable with taking that split second to collect your thoughts before you respond. Can literally be a 2 second "hmm" or buy yourself some time with "Yea that's a really interesting question...", but organizing yourself for just a second can really help.
Re: brain fog: get off your damn cell phone 24/7. Practice paying complete attention to one thing at a time. If you are watching TV, just watch TV. If you are listening to music, just listen to music. Tapping on our phones constantly during other activities is shattering our ability to focus clearly. Multi-tasking is a myth. Try to start drastically reducing screen time and being purposefully focused on whatever you are doing, even if it's just leisure.
Thanks, appreciate the advice. Also lol I’m on my phone all the time it’s very bad. Definitely need to refocus and just read or put the phone away for x hours a day.
Yea it's tough man but the first step is recognizing it's a problem and being aware of when you are looking at your phone purely out of habit or when you should be doing something else. I really do think it's a way bigger problem than it gets press for being. Most of what we use our phones for these days are very "low value" activities that we would be better off replacing with other analog activities or focusing fully on whatever else we are doing.
Would recommend the book "Digital Minimalism" by Cal Newport.
Make sure you take a breath and clear your mind. To be perfectly honest, your post in this thread gave me anxiety and I'm not even the one interviewing. If you're thinking about your fitness routine, sleep schedule, diet, hydration levels, etc. heading into an interview of course you're not going to be focused. Think about the interview.
Haha thank you, but to clarify that's usually what helps with the issue. Not what I'm focused on going into an interview. It's definitely more about the above with being addicted to my phone and not being able to put it down to focus sometimes. So I've been doing x hour breaks outside of work where I'll put my phone down and force myself to not look at it.
