email cover letter for IB HELP

Hey,

I would greatly appreciate your 2 cents on my email cover letter. After having an epiphany a year ago, I got my s*** together and I am trying to break into IB.

- I am applying to a boutique IB trainee position for fall.
- Starting in a MF program this fall in an effort to rebrand myself
- no prior IB experience, graduating this summer and currently interning in consumer & small business credit risk

Dear Sir/Madam

I am graduating this summer with a bachelor’s degree in finance at xxx and starting master’s studies at xxxx in fall. I have grown interested in investment banking through course work and participating in M&A case competitions.

I am an easy-going person who takes work seriously; I have maintained a strong GPA throughout my studies. I am eager to learn more and willing to work hard for it. I am extremely interested in an internship at xxx, a leading independent investment bank.

I would welcome an opportunity to discuss my qualifications with you and learn more about xxx at your earliest convenience. Please find attached my CV. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

John Smith

Listing coursework on a resume or cover letter is bullshit. There are 100,000 other kids who too the same classes and got an A.

Honestly don't know why it's on all these resume templates, because it's a waste of space. In an interview, I'm not going to go, "Oh wow, you got a 4.0 in accounting? You're hired."

Nobody will read your cover letter.

Intern2014:

break* into IB (not brake). If this is just an email saying that my CV is attached then it should be much shorter than this.

Good catch ;) and thanks for your reply! They asked me to email them my application and cv. I figured I should provide at least a little bit of substance to cover the "application" part? Then again they used "application" instead of "cover letter" so I am conflicted...
