Apply to Summer Analyst or Summer Associate internships for MBA student?

Hello monkeys as an MBA candidate I am looking at doing a summer internship in banking. I notice that some banks only advertise a summer analyst position, or some will have summer analyst positions in a range of fields and then a summer associate position only for a specific sector like quant which I am not interested in.

Can anyone tell me should I be applying to the summer analyst positions but explaining in the cover letter that I am looking for a summer associate internship, or do I just avoid these places altogether and only apply to specific summer associate programs? I would be new to the industry so a summer analyst position is probably appropriate for me, but surely it would be a bit strange competing with undergrads for these positions.

Any pointers from those in the nose would be much appreciated.

Edit: Also there are a lot more summer associate internships in the US, is it worth applying to these as a non-US citizen studying outside of US or will they only consider local students?
