MBA Ranking by Notable Alumni??

Hey guys,

Was wondering how you would rank the top 15-20 MBA programs by the quality of their alumni accomplishments? By this, I mean to ask for your perception of business school brand names when it comes to alumni that founded or lead large businesses, became billionaires/famous in the business world, etc.

Do you also think these past results somehow predict the future of alumni success as well? For example, HBS, Stanford, Wharton, and Columbia seem to have higher level accomplished alumni when compared to schools like Kellogg, Booth, Haas, MIT Sloan from a simple google search.

Thanks.

I think looking at the absolute most successful alumni is not the best proxy for quality of a program, since they are by default the outliers. But to answer your question, here are the top 10 MBA programs by # of billionaire alumni, per Business Insider: 1. Harvard University — 64 2. Stanford University — 23 3. Columbia University — 14 4. University of Pennsylvania — 12 5. University of Chicago — 10 6. INSEAD — 9 7. New York University — 7 8. International Institute for Management Development — 5 9. University of Southern California — 5 10. London Business School — 4

I agree that it seems abnormal to have such a large gap between the top (Harvard) and the rest of the top 10. My theory is that the students who are accepted to Harvard are on average already extraordinarily successful - the top of the top. Considering that billionaires and CEOs are outliers - also top of the top, it makes sense that they would have come from Harvard.

Side note, I forgot to add in my original post that FT has an article listing where the CEOs of FT500 companies went for their MBAs. Here's the 10 schools with the most CEOs on the list: 1. Harvard - 22 2. INSEAD - 8 3. Stanford - 7 3. Wharton - 7 5. Columbia - 6 5. Kellogg - 6 7. Booth - 5 7. Stern - 5 9. Darden - 3 9. Vanderbilt - 3
