Pass/Fail for MBA Admissions?
Hey everyone! I had a really quick question: How do Pass/Fail classes look to MBA admissions, specifically HSW? Would they even care? I'm asking specifically for Orgo if that matters.
Note, this is related to deferral programs where you apply in the senior year of college, so I imagine grades are more important since you are less removed from the classroom and have less work experience.
Also, just generally speaking:
A) What is the lowest grade where one should not consider taking a class P/F? Like some would say a B is better than a P but a P is better than a B-.
B) How many P/F classes should one not go above in their 4 years of undergrad? 2, 3, 4?
Does your major have anything to do with Orgo? If not, then it will most likely be perceived as a class you took for fun or interest that you did not fail in. I've heard that most places will not check what the actual grade was that you earned in the P/F course, but correct me if I'm wrong.
It's recommended to not take too many courses P/F (especially if they're related to your major) so I'd say no more than two, but there's no exact number.
It's impossible for anyone to check your "actual grade." Universities don't keep track of numeric grades....only the letter grade on your transcript.
But yes, I agree that taking P/F courses doesn't influence b-school. you should however limit the number of P/F courses you take (most universities have a limit anyway).
Thanks for the response! Yea, I'm a chemistry major so Orgo is directly related. What would they think then? Especially if it's in what would otherwise be considered a challenging semester.
I got an invite at Booth so far, haven't heard back from HSW yet, but I have two P/F classes on my transcript. Not related to my major. I don't think it matters at all as long as the rest of your application is solid.
If its related to your major you probably can't Pass/Fail it anyways right? I can't imagine that someone who wants to be a chem major could P/F one of the more significant core chemistry classes.
