Commodities Hedge Funds?
Couldn’t find a dedicated topic to this, but what are some big hedge funds that dabble mainly in commodities? Was also wondering what other large hedge funds have large desks in commodities trading?

Citadel is building out a physical commodities business. The multi managers all have a presence but commodities HFs have been dormant this past decade. Way too much supply due to zero interest rates, very little vol. But they're making a comeback now
outside of gas what commod are they going into physical for?
i was in their phys gas business when it first started. i built that business for them. i'm not sure beyond gas at the moment but i think maybe power and oil. they also own production (look up purewest energy). i brought them into the upstream game but idk if they are marketing the oil and liquids themselves along with the gas
Usually a part of macro strat at a large fund. Don't see commodities as a standalone strategy with big funds.
If you're looking at pureplay commodities then CTAs, but these guys are small-medium not large. But collectively then can have some meaningful impact on markets. Also, these guys are kinda branch into everything now, equity and bond futures are also treated as 'commodities' for these guys.
Macquarie?
Citadel as mentioned, MLP/Baly/Squarepoint/DRW/DE Shaw. Bluecrest is looking to get, Jump is looking to expand and some others.
Some of the known ones - Hartree, Engelhart, Freepoint..
