Depends if your desk is just vanillas or exotics. I'm going to assume vanillas (XTOs). Indeces is typically a lot faster paced due to the popularity of trading index options. Imo it can get a bit stale pretty quick but you'll know those indeces vol surfaces like the back of your hand. Singles is much more granular, can charge a higher spread due to their relative illiquidity. The idiosyncrasies in trading singles also keeps it more interesting as you have to keep track of hundreds of vol surfaces and events that will impact pricing of options on various names. If you're looking for fast-paced, more macro oriented desk, go index. If not, then singles.

 

I think exo is definitely more interesting in terms of day to day. However there's a much steeper learning curve and some may not prefer that kind of challenge. Also slightly longer hours on exo from what I've seen
