Incoming SA - Excel/VBA
Incoming S&T SA at Citi and was wondering if it would be worthwhile learning VBA over break.
No coding background whatsoever so I am trying to figure out what the best resources would be to learn. Willing to pay for a online course from Wall Street Prep/other reputable providers if you guys think it would be useful.
Hey man, as a former S&T intern and now FT analyst in FICC I can 100% say that YOU DO NOT NEED TO PAY FOR ANY EXCEL COURSES. You definitely do not need to know VBA or even excel for the internship. Citi offer rates are very high (90%) and all you need to do is ask good questions and not be a total douche who thinks he knows everything. Once you join FT, there are countless free resources that the firm provides so that you can learn VBA, Excel, Python, SQL. There is no need to spend any of your own money! Congrats on the offer btw. Better use of your time would be to catch up on some reading or diving into a passion that you've been holding back on due to recruiting. The hard skills will come in time when you join the firm.
Thanks man! Really appreciate the advice. Other than keeping up with the markets, any other advice you would have for me? Because of COVID, our winter break has been extended and I'd rather do something productive during that time than just sit around at home. I will definitely resume some of my hobbies though that were put on hold this fall because of recruiting.
