I understand that different strategies require different skills, but purely from a numbers standpoint, it is easier to break into a hedge fund coming from trading (fixed income/macro) or from research?

If you are a top performer on a reputable desk I would think trading might be easier. Most of the people in research for rates at my BB have PhDs so not even sure if that would be an option out of ug. Can’t speak to other products
My wording was vague, I’m sorry. I mean more along the lines of macro trading v. Equity Research. I know that the exits are different, but purely from a number standpoint, which is the better path?
