Breaking into VC/PE post-MBA w/ experience in BB IB, mega fund investing, & big tech strategy
Hi all,
I am currently in the MBA application process for HBS, GSB and Wharton. I'm trying to assess my post-mba career goals and would appreciate advice from those of you in the VC/PE community.
For the past 2 years, I've worked in business strategy and partnerships for a new product group within a big tech company (FAANG). Before this, I spent 2 years in distressed credit investing at a PE mega fund. I began my career in M&A IB at a bulge bracket.
I'm hoping to transition back to investing. If I attend one of the aforementioned MBA programs and make a real effort to network, do I have a realistic chance of breaking into VC, Growth or PE?
I know that PE emphasizes pre-MBA PE/IB experience. Would not having done traditional LBO investing be a huge roadblock? How about the impact of being 2-3 years removed from investing through the big tech role? Do firms value the mix of strategy/operations and investing experience?
Thank you.
