Corporate Banking at BB vs ESOP analyst at BB
I've been out of school for approx. 16 months working in MM Chicago based commercial bank. The goal is to get into IB and my current experience will not get me there. I have a couple of opportunities that I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on and which you think would give me a better shot to IB.
1 Corporate Banking Analyst at BB.
2 ESOP Analyst at BB. This one is unique, but the team has an advisory role rather than a lending role where it conducts all the valuations, prepare the models and structure the deal, and work with various areas/groups within the bank to close and monitor the transaction.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Either.
After you're in corporate banking, it's not hard to transfer to IB. Just make sure that it's true corporate banking, with the pay pretty close to in line with IB. Some people on here try to group commercial and corporate into being the same thing.
Thanks! It's true corporate banking at BAML covering F500 clients.
I am currently leaning towards the ESOP opportunity because I think I am a better fit with the team, would that make me too specialized? How would Associates and VPs from IB view it? I am targeting MM M&A IB shops.
I'm doing corporate banking at BAML right now. Pretty good time to be honest but depends on what you want to do. It would give you a good shot to IB for sure, but it's probably good to stay in CB for a couple of years.
Hey, I'm a rising senior and actually tryna break into corporate banking for ft. Any advice? Can I PM you?
Yeah feel free to DM me but to be honest, it’s tough to break in without an internship unless you’ve done IB this summer. They usually fill up their spots with current interns.
Curious - what's your average hours like in CB at BAML? How often do you work on weekends?
It depends on the group to be honest. Some industry groups work as much as IB and some have 9-5 lives so it really depends. I currently very rarely work weekends, sometimes might have to send a one-off thing like once a month but really don’t work on weekends that much at all. But again, depends on the industry group.
