Piper Jaffray 1st round SA interview
hey, so PJC notified people who got 1st round interviews yesterday, and I was wondering if anyone had done a 1st round with them before and has any insights. The email said it's mostly about your background with some behavioral and technical questions. I'm mostly curious if people have gotten fair technicals before or pretty difficult, out of left field technicals. Thanks!
Should be fairly standard technicals unless your interviewer is a dick or having a terrible day lol
okay cool, I have the standard questions down, but those threads always throw me off where people get absolutely grilled in their interviews with questions about like advanced merger math and really complex accounting questions. I asked an analyst I know at a BB bank and he said if I take the time to learn all that I'll be wasting my time
when did you apply? and if you dont mind telling, are you at a target?
a few weeks ago and I go to a state school like UNC, UVA or UMich
And did you do any networking by any chance?
I'd say 90% of people networked, whether it be with someone high up like and MD or just an analyst. A lucky few (like me lol) get interviews just by applying online but you'll have to have something really going for you like a near perfect GPA or DI athletics.
I actually did no networking -- I stumbled over the job posting online and decided to apply. I don't have a very good GPA or athletics, but I have a lot of leadership/extracurriculars and 2 internships at a big company
I didn't as well. Not sure if the majority of first rounders are from networking or just online apps. I go to a target school and have pretty good leadership and f100 internships but my GPA ain't that great.
Please put your interview notes with questions in the Master Google Doc https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/19fBzOhbCBWz13mg5V1wA8TL8_1ewPP_…</a">HERE when you are done.
where there's no one else throwing SBs to newyorkermonkey's comment? This doc is really helpful
Is it too late to apply?
The website says the application closes on 15 Sep and they just added the Houston and Charlotte office applications so I don't think so
I took part in an interview with PJC. First round was fairly standard technicals with most of the emphasis being on your background. My interviewer at least (I don't know if this will apply across the whole firm) wanted to hear a lot about involvement at your school and how you manage time. Basically wanted to see if you could manage the hours. Other than that it was standard technical questions.
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
Did you hear back yet after the phone call? Any updates?
Has anyone had their first round yet? Mine's next week and apparently its with the recruiting manager not a banker. Someone I talked to had theirs also with the recruiting manager and got no technical questions.
Anyone else do their first round yet?
When did you apply?
like 2 weeks ago
Anyone hear back after the phone interview or know when we should expect to hear back?
Were you told to network afterwards or just told to wait?
Did anyone hear back from Piper yet? Did my interview at the end of July!
Recently had a phone interview pretty much all standard technicals and questions about school, internship etc. heard that I would hear back from hr next week
Have you heard back from Piper?

Hi all,
I have a call for a 10-15 min interview with a recruiter at Piper Jaffray for their equity research summer analyst position. Since the call is with a recruiter and she mentioned it would be a get to know you type of interview, I was wondering what I should expect. If anyone has any insight on the interview or Piper's Equity Research division in particular it would be appreciated. Thanks!
