Expectations Management
Hi,
I'm looking to join one of the big asset managers or banks' Asset Management divisions, in a research/analysis role in fixed income or FX, with a long term goal of becoming a portfolio or overlay manager some time in the future. But there are a few things about it I haven't been able to clear up going through their websites, so I figured maybe you can help here.
So my situation is as follows: I've been in the markets division of a central bank for the past three years or so - basically doing analysis and monitoring of money markets and FX markets. Passed CFA Level I and II exams, sitting Level III in three weeks' time. In August I'm heading to the UK for the MSc(Econ) at LSE.
Now, if I try to go to the US after that to join BlackRock, PIMCO, GSAM, JPAM etc, what kind of role can I realistically expect? I think my resume will be pretty close to what they'd be looking for (education, CFA, experience, skills, languages) - but I won't have experience in the private sector and I won't have an MBA.
I wouldn't necessarily want to start again from scratch in a grad role - I'd prefer to start as an associate, which is closer to my current level. But without an MBA, do you think that's realistic? With the exception of PIMCO, none of them even mention masters level qualifications in their associate hiring materials.
