Goldman Sachs Middle Office

Hey Guys. Im speaking to someone at GS and im coming from a non target state school suma cum laude with economics and accounting. Told it would be to hard to get into IBD but can they can definitly facilitate a BO or MO role (that seems to be where GS takes non target ppl).

What MO roles are there within the firm that would put me in a strategic position to get a MBA then IBD or Consulting....basically anything but BO/MO (no diss to MO people...just want to move to more interesting things just like you most want to do).

You're much better off finding a position you enjoy than doing whatever you think might give you the best chance of moving to investment banking. Most of the "back office" positions outside of those that directly support other businesses have pretty decent mba placement. If after a few years, you can't stand what you're doing, do an mba.

Look at corporate treasury, corp development, corporate strategy, investor relations, market risk and corp fp&a. See which one(s) sounds the most interesting to you and proceed from there.

People have gone on to front office positions from all the above, though it's certainly not the norm.

Thanks for all your responses. I am definitly looking to do something I enjoy; just want to also be in a good position to move into a good MBA if I decide that is best. Development, Strategy, and FP&A seem like a great start for a career and I will look further into it. Also GS seems to have and Operations IMD division which seems like it could be pretty cool. Any thoughts on that?
