Hesitating between 2 jobs
Hi everyone,
I'm currently faced with a choice between 2 jobs in consulting :
- strategy consultant (junior) in a boutique or Tier 2 player (no M/B/B)
- strategy analyst for a leading IT consultancy (think Accenture, Capgemini, ...) : not a consultant, but working with the Group Management Board on the firm's global strategy
My basic concern is with exit opps : I'm uncertain how long I want to stay in consulting, and will probably get an MBA somewhere along the road.
How would you rate the prestige/interest of both positions for a futur recruiter, either professional or BS ?
It would help a lot knowing which type of boutique. Are we talking LEK/Cambridge group type of firms, or are we talking some no-name boutique firms.
If it is a no-name boutique firm, I'd go with Capgemini/Accenture
I don't think LEK is really considered a boutique. I see them more as Tier 2.
The boutique I'm referring to was launched a couple years ago by a Roland Berger partner, and only works in one or two industries in which the founder had strong clients. It's no name for anyone outside of my country/the industry sectors it's involved in.
Like freroht said above, if it's a no-name boutique I would go for Accenture/Capgemini considering that it is an analyst job and not backoffice.
Otherwise if it's a Tier 2 player (LEK, ATK, etc.), definitely take this one.
Can you give more details on the second position?
How does the pay compare? I realize you said you were more interested in prestige/exits than comp.
My concern is that the second position is back office at an IT firm. First one might be better depending on the details...
