I don't have any specific insight to HIG in Boston. Unfortunately, I've only heard negative things about their Miami office. This includes things such as long hours and less-than-nice people. I'd be skeptical of any group that only lists their managing partners on their website -- they obviously don't have as high an appreciation for their junior folks as some other shops.

I'd like to add a +1 to CompBanker's thoughts. I've heard the same about their Miami office. We sold several companies for HIG while I was in banking, and their associate/analyst was ALWAYS awake and responding to emails whenever I was - ie. 2am.

CaptK, talk is cheap! What is the point of saying "+1" if you aren't going to deliver the banana?!

To the OP -- I think the consensus is that HIG is a bit of a sweatshop. Proceed at your own risk.

I gotcha CompBanker, I gave you a banana just because CaptK blue balled you

Thanks for the insight - thought for a while that HIG Miami was the "ultimate" MM firm given its location...

The more and more I think about it, it seems that Boston is a great city for MM PE, but I am wondering how "foreigner friendly" this city can be.

http://www.tampabay.com/news/business/faced-with-83-million-bill-tampa-…] It is not unusual for small business owners to not understand the terms of the purchase agreements they enter into. They hire inexperienced M&A lawyers that give them poor advice. While this is certainly a ridiculous situation, I wouldn't be too quick to assume HIG is at fault.
