how to analyze M&A deal?

Hey guys, doing a project for a summer M&A class at my school and have a noob question about it. If I was simply told "analyze the m&a deal" ( so it can be used for advisory services later on), what kind of analysis am I supposed to be doing? Post-M&A performance of the acquirer? especially in that division? (i.e if microsoft acquires firefox, do I just check the performance after the acquisition of the web browser division ? ) . I'm confused since I was told such a general statement, and the prof's not responding to his e-mails. THANKS in advance !
