How to handle an awkward confrontation?

What if one of your superiors suspects you of interviewing at other places and confronts you about it? How would you handle it?

Also.. do you think your employers would be petty enough to fire you over such a discovery? Obviously not on the grounds that you are looking elsewhere, I'm sure they would fabricate some other BS reason.

are you interviewing

are you interviewing internally or externally?

if externally is it for pe/hf or for the same group at another bank ? or another ibd group at another bank?

I got nailed once for this

I was looking at a different position within the bank. I sent an email to the MD to inquire about the role. He made the assumption I was applying for it. He called my boss and asked what kind of employee I was.

The next thing I know my boss is in my office with someone from HR. NOT GOOD!

I was dancing on my feet...I told them I did not want the role I was just interested in what it would take to move into that position someday.

My bullshit worked and everything played out fine. My point is be careful what you do internally if that is the case. The eyes are always watching trust me.

There must be something that has tipped off your boss. Your attitude can say alot and it may indicate you are not happy. Be aware of this even if your not. Play the game when you have to until you have a solid offer outside, then you can be do whatever. Do burn any bridges of course but you get the point.
