Opportunities related to Major?

Right now I'm at the CAS at UPenn. I'm considering majoring in international relations, but would that be a detriment to a possible career on wall street as opposed to majoring in economics? I'm assuming the recruiters would be more interested in people from wharton, so would doing a different major make any sense?

wharton helps for IBD/PE/HF

wharton helps for IBD/PE/HF jobs - for certain S&T roles, major is peripheral. your IR major shows an interest in worldly/economic events - a bank might find you a good fit for rates/emerging markets/FX/commodities, etc. I would advise a quantitative side pursuit - I found a math minor pretty easy to pick up at Penn, and that was in addition to going dual-degree. Apart from that, just do extra-curriculars and internships to help you stand out.

i found the econ dept at penn to be pretty lacking in the undergrad area - took maybe 1-2 courses I found conceptually substantial. a lot of my friends who were IR really liked the major, and it seems like they got a lot out of their senior thesis
