Ask them if there is any chance they would let you interview for an FO role?
If you do not want to go through other recruiting effort take this one but understand the cons. It will be extremely difficult to transition to FO from MO role. Whereas you would have good shot at BB IBD if you come from MM IBD
I have talked to HR, they directed me to this MO role and gave me an offer immediatly. I have asked about talking to someone in FO, they said they will put me through to a recruiter, but could not guarentee even an interview. I have a contact at this BB (alum) who is very willing to help, but he is a very new analyst and is unsure of how much he can help someone who is looking to do an internship after he graduates and before a MSF program. He advised me to take it and interview elsewhere, but he got the job through a very connected relative and does not understand what going through the recruiting process is like for everyone else. I just dont want to be stuck with nothing or stuck in MO.
Looking at your CV, I would 100% undoubtedly turn down the offer. Tell them you appreciate it, but would very much like to pursue front-office opportunities. If they don't let you interview for front office, I'd be very surprised. You should also be able to get front-office interviews for SA spots at most other places if you get your CV in front of the right people.
Thanks for the response. What do you mean by get my CV in front of the right people. Its tough to network from my school, and I would say that I only have ~10 contacts to get interviews through. Is an online app enough for the rest?
Hey nice resume. When you right undecided on (Oxford/Cambridge/LSE/Vanderbilt) do you already have offers of admissions at these places for 2011?
If so that is great and definitely interview for FO roles.
But if these are places which you are applying to then the resume may confuse people. It looks as though you are deciding between these programs which have accepted you. Have these programs already accepted people for 2011?
I can see how that is misleading. I have not yet been accepted to any of these programs, and will not know until after the resume drop date. Should I write it differently?
