Starwood Capital Asset Management
Monkeys - anyone have info on this group? Comp, exits, culture? Other posts have acqusitions being sweatshop-ish but what about asset management? Good group/name to have on resume to eventually pivot into acquisitions?
Dude, you serious... It's Starwood not Dime Bank.
Starwood? Never heard of them. Are they a regional player?
Edit: Damn, rough crowd
You can effectively move into any group from Starwood, even if its Asset Management. Buddy of mine is an Acquisitions Analyst and works 90-100 weeks in the Greenwich office. All in comp $150-200K.
Comp: Around $120-140k all-in for analysts (EDIT: previously said $140-150k which may have been more of a one-off)
Culture: Based on my discussions with an analyst/associate who worked there recently (non-CT office), it's an understaffed sweatshop. They have lost a good amount of junior guys over the past year. Expect to regularly work past 9pm and weekends. Also you are looked down upon by the Ivory Tower crew up in CT.
Exits: The brand name on your resume will open a lot of doors, which may make it worth tolerating for a year or two.
If you have any more specific questions feel free to PM me.
Not 140-150k all in for analysts.
Much less.
I knew (don't keep in touch) their stud analyst on the WC who was promoted and relocated to NYC. Saw this kid at all the good RE events and he didn't look too droopy eyed. He did acquisitions/AM for them. Based on our limited discussions, he didn't seem to burn the midnight oil all that often. No more so than normal for acquisitions anyways. Sounds like EC is a bit different culturally.
Is the job SF NY or Green?
Either way, the pay and prestige may be worth a year or two of torture. I've spoken on this in other threads, but a top tier name on your rez will open capital raising doors as well as exit opp doors.
I think it is for the SF office. I got hit up by a recruiter for it and have seen the posting on select leaders
Sweet, then shouldn't be as bad as NYC/CT but I wouldn't expect it to be too rosy.
DC office.
I have an interview coming up with this group and wanted insight into comp if anyone has it. Assuming it is not in the previously mentioned 140-150k range, but would it be over at least 100k?
Also if anyone knows of exit opps from this group please advise. My worry is that there would be limited opps into acquisitions/development.
I've got an interview with this group as well and would also like this information
Is yours also for the SF office?
Anyone interviewing with the Hotel Asset Management group? Interview coming up and curious as to whether or not this team differs at all from the culture, comp, exit ops, etc. laid out above.
AM in Atlanta years ago was in the 65k range (post-MBA)
Can you live in NYC and work in their Greenwich office or is that even feasible?
Not very feasible. Doable, sure. Better off living in Greenwich for 1-2 years to get the name on your resume and then figuring out logistics of going into the city. There's other posts weighing the pros and cons of that commute. At least an hour on the train each way + whatever working hours you'll have is brutal.
Starwood actually just signed a lease for large amount of space on the West Side in Manhattan. They’re opening their office I think I read early 2020. Curious which groups will be based out there.
Hotels team is already in nyc. all acquisitions will be moving to city
They took 14,258 sf @ $185 psf, right across from The Standard.
