What would you do? Offered an operational role

Need some advice from finance / corporate guys. Currently a corp dev analyst, recently part of an acquisition of a SaaS technology platform. The GM of that business unit wants me to consider an operations manager position (newly created) to improve business processes, with a strong emphasis on reporting. Would not have any direct reports to my understanding.

The trade off seems pretty simple. Promotion to a less exciting type of role or squat in my analyst position until something better comes up. Any immediate thoughts? I do enjoy corporate development, I am also considering b-school in the next 2-3 years and wonder if getting a promotion will be a valuable experience to have.

Manager role with no one under you? So you aren't a manager? I guess my thoughts are this. A good friend of mine once told me to "go where the most problems are". And he's the fastest riser of anyone I know. So if you can go into this role and really do a great job and improve the processes for the company in a visible way, you are probably going to get far more exposure than you are as a corp dev analyst. Likewise, a promotion to a manager role (if it actually is) shows you being able to take on more responsibility which is good for both in the company and b school apps.

But, if it's not something you think you could do well in or something you think you would be interested in doing for the next few years, don't take it. It seems pretty highly visible, so you want to feel confident about it before you do.

This could quite possibly be the best advice I've heard on the CorpFin forum (no offense to all the contributors who've offered their experience/time). SB for sharing it with us.
