IB Analyst and Sales & Trading position
General Interview Information
Interview Details
First rounds for IB were a series of four interviews with various members of the IB team (associates, VPs, MDs).
I had met and gotten to know much of the team in the prior year and a half but once I got into the room, it was as if no one knew me. Most interviews were one on one or two on one; there were no panel interviews. I definitely received the stone face treatment in an attempt to make me feel uncomfortable.
The questions were not particularly unusual; the typical valuation and accounting questions were all there though. There was a lengthy discussion on LBOs, which made it slightly different than my more successful interviews at other firms.
After interviewing with IB, I went up one floor to the Sales & Trading interview. There, they grilled me on various trading strategies and positions I would take in various scenarios. There was a strong focus on the European debt crisis and how I'd trade FICC based on news out of Europe.
Overall, it was a decent experience, if not for the fact that both teams noted that I was interviewing with the other arm of the bank and my inability to pick a side ultimately disqualified me (in my view).
