Yes 50-60 is common - why you ask?

- Any half decent PM by this point will be wealthy and can retire very comfortably.

- Around this time kids will be leaving to go to college... means wife will be bored at home alone and probably prefers husband to retire and spend time with her given they don't need money any more. Also opens up greater ability to travel/ do fun stuff that couldn't happen with kids at high school.

- Start to get older and contemplate one's mortality.

- LO PM is a fairly stressful job.. have to perform and deal with clients, internal politics, internal management... given the above many decide to call it a day.

I know a few and they have left the "job" but not retired. They are so wired into that lifestyle / intensity that it's hard to sit still. Know one guy who started a family office (with his own money), another who started a VC firm. They both transitioned in their 50s and are now late 50s / mid 60s and still going strong. I think they have  a lot more fun now as they're quite engaged but more on their own terms.
