HR Told me to expect an offer in a few days… 2 weeks ago

I’ve been interviewing at an asset management firm the last couple months. I had an initial interview with a co-head, then a case study after that, and then a super day a week or so later, all of which went really well. 4 days after the super day I get a call from HR saying that the feedback from my interviews were great and that the team was tracking me as their number one choice. On the phone call, he asked about about time constraints to start, other current offers and laid out comp (base, sign-on bonus, and end of year bonus). Then he said, the team had a couple more meetings with other candidates that week. He said never say never but I should reach out back in a few days with good news. I didn’t hear from him the rest of the week so I reached out the following week to get an response email that he was out of office. I emailed the contact provided in the email (another HR rep) and she said the team was still doing interviews and they should have a decision by next week and that she would let me know with status update. Now, it’s late of that “next week” and I still haven’t heard anything. What should I think and also is there any following up to do with either the original HR guy since I know he’s back in office, the other HR rep, or the team I interviewed with? My confidence has obviously slid but the last actual convo I had with them, they said I was the guy.

I faced a similar issue recently. They had several calls with me after the interviews to discuss about the salary. There was no contact for 2 weeks but they came through on Monday with the offer. They were basically deciding among the candidates and comparing the salary offers. It's an operating cost decision in the end.

I was still doing several other interviews because nothing was secured yet. I would suggest you to do the same. Keep applying and do your interviews until you get the contract. It's a tough situation to be in as I can relate with you.

I hope you get the offer soon. Good luck with everything.
