Ideal home work set up
Hi, I am going to have my virtual internship this summer at a BB (GS/MS/JPM) in WM and I was wondering what is the ideal desktop setup to have. Any specific desktop models or setup?

two screens
Following. Any brand recommendations for laptops, keyboards, etc?
Two screens minimum, although a large one and a separate laptop can work in a pinch. If you have space and HP to run three, that's even better. I'm running two laptops and a desktop because that's what I have, but I have a pretty extensive AM loadset.
The next most important overlooked item is the interface. Get a good (mechanical) keyboard. No need to break the bank with a top of the line model, but you'll hate it if you're typing on a $5 POS all summer long. Also, normally, it should be full-size with a numpad. I'm a lefty, so I actually have a '10-keyless' (no numpad) model and a separate stand-alone numpad to the left of my mouse, since I need to operate it with my left hand. Speaking of mice, get a good ergo mouse. No need for a 'gaming mouse,' but basic mice can cause repetitive stress injuries over time. Mice with a more vertical grip are pretty popular.
As to the actual PC, a WM load-out is normally pretty light. You'll probably spend most of your time in Excel and Powerpoint. Excel is likely to be the most strenuous program you'll use. If you get lucky You might get Morningstar Direct or Zephyr. (If you get M* LEARN IT WELL btw) Your biggest constraint is likely to be the RAM, so don't skimp there.
As to the actual PC, If going for a desktop, have you considered building your own? That way you can skip junk like the cheap bundled keyboard and mouse and actually pick what you want. For the most part everything is plug-and-play, and any moderately handy person can do it with the aid of some youtube videos. You may pay slightly more up-front, but you'll normally get higher quality components, and can generally just swap out individual parts as needed. My 6 year old desktop with an i5-4670 is getting a little long in the tooth, but I may just see about getting another 16gb of RAM for it and see if I can get another two years without a major expense.
I heavily considered trying to build my own desktop, but I do not see myself needing this desktop outside of the internship period as I prefer to use my laptops instead. Do you have any suggestions on any particular models?
The thinkpad x1 is super popular as a work laptop.. personally I have a dell XPS which I love.
You want to focus on specs at a minimum: processor: intel i5 ram: 8gb but 16gb will be nice if you’re going to have a lot of stuff open including any heavy models storage: more personal preference but opt for an SSD drive
get a docking station, proper kb/m and triple external screens. so 4 screens total including your lappy!
