internship indecision

A little background- I am a junior at a top liberal arts school that has decided on either Asset Management or sales and trading. I have been networking with alums for months and it hasn't really paid off until this week. I have interviewed at a bunch of places but could not "seal the deal."

These are my two options at this point and presumably for the year. 1. A top boutique shop wthat is extremely top heavy, newly founded, and looking for young "talent." Option 2 is a large insurance company where I would be a part of the investment portfolio group. The first job would be more relaxed and I would be able to move around freely in the sales and trading but also Capital Markets Group.

Here is the catch: I have not definitively heard back from internship 1 but through chats with the alum know I did very well and will hear back this week. Job 2 cannot hold the position for me so I need to make a decision asap.

In conclusion: do I hold out for job 1, that is not a sure bet, or go with the risk averse safe route.

Thanks a lot!

Note: I did this on my phone so I apologize for typos etc.

Never throw away a decent offer for the possibility of a better one. If you prefer job 1, tell the job 1 people that you really like them and will take a job if offered, but have another offer that will expire soon and need them to tell you if you have a job or not.
