Bain ACI to Bain Capital Offer

Hello everyone, this summer I will be working a Bain ACI internship in a city that is not New York / San Francisco. Recently I became part of an email list for Bain Capital networking/application process information (I understand this is not an exclusive list but instead just showing where my interest in the following question comes from) and was wondering exactly how difficult it would be to maneuver my ACI internship into a full-time role within the PE group at Bain Capital. Does anyone have experience with this? I am extremely willing to network as much as possible from within Bain this summer but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on if this has been done and how to best go about it. Thank you!

Ah so I haven’t heard this one in a while - Bain the consulting firm and Bain Capital the PE firm are two completely separate corporate entities. They share the same name because BainCap was spun out by Mitt Romney and a few other Bain partners back in the eighties to apply a more operationally focused consulting-esque approach to portfolio companies.

That’s to say, as far as I know (which may be wrong) there’s no direct way to network through Bain into Bain capital because they’re distinct entities. The reason why you may be confusing the two is because Bain (the consulting firm) is a leader in private equity consulting, specifically under their PEG (private equity group). If you want to apply for a Bain Capital role full time you’ll have to apply through their undergraduate full time analyst program and network with people currently working at Bain Capital or apply during PE recruiting with on or off cycle recruiting. Fortunately for you, Bain Capital is quite friendly to consultant recruiting so it’s not like your resume won’t even be looked at because you’re a consultant if you have relevant project experience.
