MBB SF/NYC Comp

Hi, i know this has been done before but threads feel a little outdated. In light of everything going on could someone recap MBB pay progression (out of undergrad --> 3 yoe pre-mba --> post mba) in NYC/SF. Thank you

Based on the most helpful WSO content regarding MBB compensation progression, here's a breakdown that aligns with the typical career path from undergraduate entry to post-MBA roles, specifically focusing on high-cost locations like NYC and SF. It's important to note that compensation can vary based on performance, specific office location, and market conditions, but this should give you a general idea.

  1. Undergraduate Entry-Level (Analyst/Associate):

    • Base Salary: Starts around $83,000 to $90,000.
    • Bonus: Can range from $5,000 to $15,000 depending on firm performance and individual contribution.
    • Total Compensation: Approximately $88,000 to $105,000.
  2. 3 Years of Experience Pre-MBA (Senior Analyst/Associate):

    • Base Salary: Increases to about $100,000 to $120,000.
    • Bonus: More significant at this stage, ranging from $20,000 to $40,000.
    • Total Compensation: Roughly $120,000 to $160,000.
  3. Post-MBA Entry-Level (Consultant/Associate):

    • Base Salary: Significantly jumps to around $165,000 to $175,000.
    • Bonus: Can be substantial, from $30,000 to $50,000, with potential for even more based on the firm's performance.
    • Total Compensation: Approximately $195,000 to $225,000.

Keep in mind, these figures are estimates and can fluctuate. Additional compensation elements such as signing bonuses, relocation expenses, and benefits (health insurance, retirement contributions) also play a crucial role in the overall package but are not included in this breakdown. High-cost areas like NYC and SF often see the higher end of these ranges to compensate for the increased cost of living.
