Why do firms ghost people?
I'm currently waiting to hear back from 11 interviews. A bunch of them were last week and later the week before last week. I seriously don't understand why they can't just send an email saying, "No, you sucked. Good luck."
Also, one was a final round interview :/
It's just part of the game unfortunately. In college I probably only got formal rejections for 1 in every 10 jobs I applied to. And when I did get a formal rejection it was either immediately or like 30 days after I interviewed. You will get a lot of No's and you will get even more ghostings. But once you get that one Yes you won't care at all.
Worse than being ghosted by a girl by far
I don’t know about your experience but it’s mainly just top tier firms and banks that ghost. It’s primarily because they receive such a great volume of applications, they aren’t going to waste their time sending out emails detailing rejection.
I’ve never understood the ghosting. I find it pretty unprofessional as it’s so easy nowadays to send an automated “you did not get the job email”.
Funny enough I interviewed for a job and made it to the final round (this job was outside of banking). Met with the team and felt I got along with them very well. Never heard anything back and assumed they went with another candidate.
I started applying to banking jobs and for the final interview the head of the group took me out to lunch to give the offer. As we are eating, I look over and sitting down the entire team I made it to the final interview for was at the next table. You could tell they were avoiding eye contact and whatnot.
At that moment I knew I did not miss out on anything joining that team. If they find a situation like that to awkward to look somebody in the eye, you know for a fact they would not be enjoyable to work with.
Sorry in advance for grammar, on mobile.
