Would I even get a chance to interview at MBB?

Hello,

I AM a new user here at WSO. Hoping to get some opinions on whether I should even invest time in practicing case interviews and/or network with ppl at MBB given my profile.

  • UG from a non target but somewhat well respected school in Asia in engineering (GPA ~3.5).
  • Worked for 7.5 years since graduation. 5 years as a military officer doing aircraft engineering work, then 2.5 years as a data analyst at a Fortune 500 US prime defense contractor. No business background and experience.
  • Currently 1/3 through a part-time distance learning MSc in Mgmt Sci & Engineering at Stanford (same academic rigor as a full-time student since work is scored together with full-time students taking the modules, but the distance learning stigma is still there).
  • Age 30 this year, will be 31-32 by the time I complete the MSc and apply for MBB.
  • GMAT 740 (50Q 40V), GRE 170Q 162V

I am not sure if I would qualify as an experienced hired without any business experience, and with only a MSc, some consulting firms would lump me into the same roles as undergrads. Planning to go down to Stanford during the campus recruiting season in 2014, but not sure if my resume would even get me a chance for an interview with MBB. I am not deadset on MBB either, wouldn't mind joining a consulting firm specializing in aerospace and defense.

Hence opinions/comments are appreciated since reading up all those books and frameworks and practicing case interviews represent some serious time investment.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the encouragement. Apologies for the profile eval type of question though.

I guess I was looking for answers from MBB resume vetters on whether they would throw resumes of "experienced" hires that do not have business experience and part-time MSc into the bin.

Hmm, I guess data analyst isn't the best description. The main bulk of my job entails analysis of aircraft engine performance data to detect defective components in order to minimize fuel burn and prevent catastrophic engine failures. The other part would be liaising with the airlines' engineering folks. Pretty much a service engineer that does lots of data analysis.
