You have the rest of your life to grind in consulting / corporate world, it might be a good time to do something fun / interesting that you wouldn't otherwise do since travel is out of the question. That was a big regret of mine coming out of undergrad. I had a few months between graduation and my start date. I wished I had done that (caddied at a historic golf course, worked on a fishing boat, bartender, etc). It's the one time in life you can experience something completely outside of your career path with zero consequences. I think it will give you an interesting perspective on life too. Your 40 year old self will thank you. I don't think its wasting time either. Most senior colleagues will think it's pretty cool. Make the best of this unfortunate situation.
