Future Finance Roles
Hi all! I read WSO posts every so often but this is my first post. I would like other people' opinion regarding the future of finance profession. Firstly let me intorduce myself.
I am based in Greece, I am 28 years old and I have bachelor in Business Administration and Master in Finance. I have worked for one year in audit, and 1,5 year in multinational corporation in Food Industry as accountant. My goal is a more finance-oriented job, a forward looking role and not accounting. I think that FP&A job roles would be nice for me.
For that reason, I am exploring the idea of trying to get a certification like CGMA (CIMA). However, I think that in the future, safe and well paid job roles will include data analysis/business analytics and I am worried if by getting CIMA I live in the past. In this scenario, I was wondering if it is better to get a master in business analytics/ data science/ statistics taking into consideration that my academic background and my two years experience is in Accounting/Finance.
In general, which skills will be essential in the future for a finance professional? Does it worth to change career in data analysis? Just to mention that both fields appeal to me as they are forward looking and not compliance-oriented.
Thank you,
