Working Under A Family Member?

I'm looking at a position at my company in a different division; however, the head of the department is my brother-in-law.  He recommended I apply to the position based on my performance in my current role (received highest possible marks).  There would be a few layers between us.  The role is different than what I'm doing today...CorpDev -> Product Management

Has anyone else been in a similar situation?  How did you navigate it?  Should I go for the role regardless the family aspect?
