Any tips for networking for ER?

I've been applying for 2021 SA  positions for equity research at many banks to small buy-side shops. I have a phone screening next week at one place, I couldn't find much about them but I've been going through their 10k form just so I don't come off clueless.

Aside from that, I have a networking call with an alumnus at a very reputable bank so I was wondering if you all had some tips in general or things I should know prior heading into it. I have my story laid out very well for why I want to do ER, and have been reading about the industry so I feel I'm set on that end.

For what it's worth I'm at a non-target so I feel networking is very crucial in general but I'm pretty excited to just learn more about what the associates do as well as the industry as a whole. The only issue is earnings season is in 2-3 weeks so I feel I need to reach out to everyone I can before October.

Have writing samples or research reports ready for the contacts you are networking with. The ability to write is important and often difficult for the hiring manager to gauge. Having written research reports with well supported data and legwork will make you stand out. The rest is all luck based on whether an analyst is looking for an associate.
