The MBA and CFA are somewhat equivalent for sellside purposes, so there's no need to do both. The good thing about the CFA is that you can do it while you're working while, with the MBA, you miss out on wages for 2 years. I would attempt to do one or the other, unless, of course, you are a stud. At the BB I worked at, numerous analysts did not have an CFA, but almost all had an MBA.

Do you have to do one of the two? I would rather do an MBA..especially now since they have more part time programs.

Also how difficult is it to switch to Sales from ER?

Each is a credential highly valued by employers. I would really think about doing one or the other. It can't hurt your marketability. Can't speak specifically about the switch, but I can tell you that if you're a high performer in research at your firm they will find space for you in the salesforce, which is larger and seen as a profit center for firms, provided that market conditions are good.
