Is compensation sub-par in Canada?
Hi all,
I've heard that pay in equity research on the buy side is significantly lower in Canada than the US, not sure if there's any truth to this.
I'm close to getting a research offer out of UG from a mutual fund (30B AUM). What can I expect as far as compensation?
Why don't you wait until you get the offer? If you don't get one, it's a moot point. If you do, then you'll know exactly what the comp is.
Of course it's lower, but the work and expectations are also MUCH MUCH lower.
Canadians get higher compensation? (Originally Posted: 11/05/2013)
I was talking to an executive at one of the big 5 canadian banks not too long ago. He said that compensation for investment bankers in canada is currently higher than it is in the states. I want to believe him because he's a pretty high ranking exec, but at the same time i can't imagine that.
Is it actually true that a banker at CIBC world markets, BMO cap. markets, or RBC cap. markets would make more than a guy at a US BB?
Can anybody give me some approx. numbers for compensation?
starting pay for BB --> 140k all-in, compared to maybe 125k all-in in NYC.
Taxes are a bit higher and cost of living is lower. It is materially more but exit opps are quite a bit weaker in Canada as our buy side isn't as developed.
