Button Down Collars when not wearing ties?
I've always grown up thinking button down colors on otherwise conservative white/blue shirts was totally fine, if a bit traditional. Now I'm seeing that many swear by no button down collar as it's too casual. I can see that when wearing a tie, but jeez it looks way worse to have a collar with no button to anchor them when not wearing a tie (even with collar stays)
Is this still the norm for you all? Are button down collars, specifically when NOT wearing a tie, acceptable in your office these days?
Hey xGQUFiJD9To, what a lonely thread. I'm here since nobody responded ...so maybe one of these discussions will help:
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
I wear button down without tie as this is more casual..and in a more formal setting when wearing a tie I only use regular collar (no button)
Note that I also wear "regular" shirts without tie..
Yeah I always thought buttons were more traditional and by extension more formal but seeing now its no button these days
It's "extreme" but there is no button on a tux shirt
I don't think button downs especially without a tie have ever been unacceptable. I think that BDs tend to look much better without a tie compared to spread/point collars anyway (depending on the exact spread/point collar).
