2020 On-Cycle HF Recruiting
Not in the industry yet, but pretty curious with how HFs are approaching recruiting right now. I know a lot of the bigger HFs typically compete with the MF/UMM timeline for top candidates, but considering how early the timeline is now, have HFs decided to wait? Not in the industry yet, but as someone planning on entering, would love to know the implications for HF recruiting in today's super early timeline
If anyone has additional insight on the process, I would really appreciate any color. Thanks!
In my experience with the process, most HFs (if not all) hire on an as-needed basis due to a junior person leaving, new PM being hired / promoted or simply looking to expand the coverage universe. Because they aren't typically bringing in x entry-level hires each year, there isn't quite the defined recruiting cycle that you see in PE.
Of the ops i've seen from headhunters, I don't think there were any with a start date more than a quarter out because they typically want/need to fill the position sooner than later. You'll also have process that are much more significantly drawn out due to lack of HR infrastructure that most of the funds have (P72-types excluded). I've had 1+ months go by in between interview rounds because the funds get busy with earnings season etc.
Note sure who threw MS at this, but this is definitely the best answer, +1 SB
