last time i spoke with them (end of 2010) they were not looking to add junior team members fyi. things could've changed but i highly doubt it given their recent troubles (failed to meet fundraising target, key senior departures, etc.)

Didn't the founder quit Goldman because he was dissatisfied with his 70MM bonus? What a tool. Totally deserves the flop.

more than that, i think he underestimated goldman's brand equity. comp aside, not sure why he left goldman to start a fund in the midst of the crisis -- that's a bad career move even if you have a great track record and are looking at distress opportunities. GS has the most flexible balance sheet on the Street and committed a ton of capital to SSG. why mess with that? then he sets a ridiculous fundraising target ($3.5bn i think?) and loses a few of his top lieutenants.

Fuck all that i set in interview with them, and when i got to the office they told that last night they already filled the position what a bitch

website now says they have $7B AUM...thoughts? couldnt find more else on them

Yeah that sounds about right. Around $3bn in fund I and $4bn in fund II.

Very well regarded firm from what I hear. Fund I is performing well I believe, although the vintage is very favorable for a distressed/special situations fund. Fund III should start raising capital towards the end of this year I would guess.
