Nuances between Hedgefund, Asset Mgmt, Investment Mgmt

Hi all,

I have done some searching on WSO and google to try to find details about the differences.

I am heading to business school (applying now, matriculating fall 2016) and am trying to research my true post-mba goals.

I read that Investment Mgmt and Asset Mgmt seem to be interchangeable terms, and a hedgefund is just a subsection of the two.

However, I can't find much in terms of what are the options within investment mgmt and how they compare to hedgefunds. I'd love to learn about the differences in the work, pay, and how to get into them.

Can someone help me with this - either by directing me somewhere that this is explained, or by explaining it here?

Ultimately I want to choose a goal for post-MBA and begin to network, research, study, and even intern in the field or change jobs to a role that will provide experience that I can sell when recruiting for internships/full-time in my MBA.

Thanks!
