Squarepoint Capital Reputation (2023)?
Undergrad here looking into a Junior Discretionary Trader role at Squarepoint and was just wondering how good of an experience this would be. How good is Squarepoint in general, their reputation, prestige and specifically pay. These guys are really taking advantage of the minimum NYC salary lmao.
This is the specific job posting for those curious: https://www.squarepoint-capital.com/job#3851879
What would be the end path for this role?
Got an offer for that exact role, didn’t take it. I can assure you it’s higher than that (starts with a 2)
Could you expand on why you didn't take the role? And by starting with 2, you mean the total comp is 200k+?
Yes to last question. Tbh felt it’s better to do S&T out of college - better security, better WLB
Following - got a recruiter call last week for this job, also curious about their reputation and job security
Have you heard back from them yet? I also had a call last week for nyc but no update yet
Hellhole
why do you say this?
From what I heard, the fund has a very solid track record, fund is open for employee but it is very French and on wlb is below average for quant industry
speaking more on the senior side - they only pay French people. All comp is discretionary even for PMs.
Given that they are famous for paying the same wherever you are located, they are great if you want to be somewhere other than the US. US pay is generally below average compared to other hedge funds from what I am hearing.
Up to my knowledge SP pays quant researchers more, traders being a less central figure. In my data points QR starts at around $300k all in, of which bonus is a big part
If you aren't french, or don't speak french, then good luck having long term career success unless you're an absolute rockstar. The founders are all french and actively look to promote their fellow nationals.
Sounds like a shit situation as a non-French.
Is this the case even in their American offices?
If you're a rockstar you'll be fine, but they'll send French nationals to NYC to lead desks/groups. If it's a toss up they'll prefer a french national over an American/Asian.
In the interview process for the exact same role - does anyone know what I should expect? Thanks!
