Advice needed - hate my job but stuck in a bad market

I've worked for a bulge bracket bank since July 2021 (a risk related role, i.e. middle office). To be honest, I don't like the content of the work - quite boring and repetitive, with limited learning curve in my team. The boss is quite controlling and bad tempered, also not really appreciating the work of juniors, so junior turnover rate used to be quite high (not this year of course)

I heard that promotion to Associates are more difficult this year because of cost cutting. Tried to lateral to other risk roles (also other areas of finance) since a few months ago, but the market is shitty. Perhaps lateral internally when the market improves?

I wonder:

  1. Is it normal not to get A2A promotion this year? How to not lose motivation for work if I'm not promoted?

  2. What should I do next in terms of career?

Would welcome any advice. The job is damaging my mental health day by day... Thanks in advance.
