Do I have a chance of getting a job in IB?
I'm a senior at a non-target school in the south . I have a 3.1 overall GPA but both my Finance and Data Analytics GPA's are 4.0's. I have been on the deans list the past few semesters. I am pretty involved at my school and am in the investment club. I have completed two internships. I have never had an analyst internship. I have also had to work all throughout college. My plan is to work for a few years and then get my MBA at a target school. The fields of consulting, investment banking, and private equity really interest me. I have a small number of connections in IB but there are some alumni from my school who work in IB.
Do you think I have any chance of getting a boutique investment banking analyst position in New York or Boston after graduation? If not, what would you suggest? I have considered getting my CFA or trying to get an analyst internship after graduation. I am desperate to get into IB and am willing to work extremely hard.
can someone please respond.
Does Grizzly Adams have a beard?
Of course, you have a chance if it is what you really want. Utilize the WSP program to understand all the basics and fundamentals, even build a couple three statement models on your own to have in your back pocket. The only thing between you and an analyst job is likely a ton of networking and relationship building, so have the elevator pitch of your background and why its relevant/led to you to IB.
Thank you this really means a lot to me!
Have you built any 3 statement models yet?
Lol should be easy for you actually. Just network and go for coffee chats with analysts from every single boutique/regional investment bank you can find.
Absolutely no chance whatsoever. No one from a non-target school has ever gotten a job in New York City or Boston in the history of this country. TSA will actually turn you away at the airport nowadays. You might want to look into the openings at the McDonalds 2019 Summer Kitchen Associate program in Nebraska. I've heard their culture is great and you learn a ton about the fast-changing nature of the low-margin QSR industry.
Ignore this guy. Aim for something more elite, such as Northwestern Mutal's Rotational Cold-Calling Insurance Analyst program. Prestige is virtually non-existent outside NYC, but Barnes and Nobel's Shelf Inventory Acquisitions team is also a major player in the C&R space worth looking into.
Wasn't his trolling obvious?
Possible, but unlikely. In other words, no.

Curious, how is your gpa only a 3.1 if you have 4.0 in all major classes as a double major in your senior year? Apart from that continue on the path you are on now. Keep networking and gain qualifications that help you stand out. A bit of luck and timing and it’s possible.
