Drinking & Summer Internship

Interning this summer in in IB, however I turn 21 in september. Want to be apart of team drinking/after work activities but not sure how this is approached. do you guys ask interns age or just go with the flow? if someone asks do i just say i’m 21? or do i say i’m 20? thx
edit: don’t mean this in a bad way, just don’t want to be left out/lame and don’t know how to play the situation

Well damn what's with your attitude? Clearly you just wanted someone to encourage your stupid idea. Fine, go and use your fake ID, go get found out by HR (which they will do), and don't get a return offer.

didn't mean to come off with attitude it was a genuine question. how is saying ok... attitude? apologies if i was rude.

Was in same boat - don’t drink at company events or anytime VP and up is present, but they shouldn’t have any sponsored events where you need to be 21+ to attend. If you have a fake and juniors are telling you it’s fine to drink when it’s just them, that’s probably fine but try to do it on weekends only. Default to not drinking if you’re unsure.

No prominent person who is truly successful drinks:

Michael Milken: Never drank alcohol, never smoked, never drank soda and never drank coffee. The smartest guy in the history of finance.

Trump: Doesn't drink

Bradley Cooper: doesn't drink

Michaelangelo: Didn't drink

Jamie Dimon: Doesn't drink (false reports claiming he does - insiders all confirm he doesn't)

Ken Griffin: Doesn't drink

Dara Khosrowshahi: Doesn't drink

Lewis Hamilton: Doesn't drink

It's not about being religious. It's about preserving brain cells.

I don't drink anymore. Best decision of my life.

I used to believe that but now I firmly believe everything in moderation - there's a time and a place for everything.

I don't drink much but 2 years ago during recruiting I went to a top EB selective networking evening and was quite nervous. I drank some of the free alcohol available and it made me much more chilled out and talkative, and subsequently I clicked with a lot of the people there from the firm. Because of that I got interviews and then an offer.

Without the alcohol idk if I'd be joining a top group.

My directors told me they did plenty worse to interns in the 80’s, I don’t think it matters that much if you show you won’t be a fucktard

go to the events and make a joke in the open about how you’re a child and so you have to get a lemonade or other childish drink. juniors will appreciate the humor and restraint, and seniors will appreciate that you were able to spin an awkward situation that was an obstacle in your favor and show charisma

I don't think the risk of possibly not getting a return offer by being a liability (company is associated with underage drinking) is worth the gain of... what? Fitting in better? No one is going to give you crap for being underage- that's an understandable reason why you wouldn't be 'socializing' with other bankers after work. Yeah it'll suck a bit by not having the opportunity to go out with the other dudes at your work but I don't think its worth at all what you are risking.
