Driving Safety After IB Workday

Hi,

I'm asking this for a friend working outside NYC / London who has to drive to the job. I have read some articles comparing driving drunk vs. sleepy and how the latter is equally as dangerous as the former. Because he's located outside NYC & London, taking the subway or tube in the morning & cab back at night is not an option. How do any of you commuters deal with the drive back at night (or morning)? What do you do when you're really on the verge of passing out? Unfortunately my friend is about ~40 minutes away from his job, so I would really appreciate any advice here..

Thanks!

why is the black car back home at night not an option?

Doesn't his firm pay for this or does he not usually stay late enough to qualify for one??

the MD in my team last summer lived waaaayyy outside London and he didn't seem to have this problem ---> use National Rail

I agree that driving while tired is pretty damn dangerous, perhaps try turning the radio up loud, put the AC on high and put your driver side window down?

Have been in an accident due to drowsiness - my advice is to make yourself uncomfortable as possible - take chug of tabasco/hot sauce down your throat with no water afterwards so that you are scorching , take caffeine by the gallon if you have to, whatever. In my (limited) personal experience windows down and radio loud did next to nothing to help keep me alert.
